To Answer the Call of Duty

So the biggest game of the year is finally here! Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is one the of the biggest anticipated games of all time. With the release of the first Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, online gaming was set to a whole new standard. Now with the release of the sequel they have taken their interpretation of online gaming to a whole new level.

In the original Modern Warfare you would get perks which enhance your performance in combat. Modern Warfare 2 has less perks to choose from but these perks make much more of a difference than they did in Modern Warfare. They also have levels to these perks where after a certain goal is met you get an upgraded perk. There are also a lot more weapon modifications you can use in Modern Warfare 2.

The campaign for Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to that of Modern Warfare. The game play is much better than the original modern warfare not just only in how it looks but how it feels as well. There are a broader selection of weapons and weapon attachments to use. With a rating of Mature it is a very violent and vulgar game. When you first start up the game there is a prompt where they ask if you will be offended by one of the levels. (SPOILER ALERT) In this level you are an undercover terrorist in a Russian airport with the main villain, Makarov. In the airport you have a light machine gun and you start to mow down innocent civilians. This level has caused quite the uproar in many countries thus far and definitely pushes the edge on just what can be put into video games.

There is also a new option besides the campaign and multiplayer in the new Modern Warfare 2. Special Ops is where you have specific goals you are trying to reach on three various difficulties: Regular, Hardened, or Veteran, each earning you 1, 2, or 3 stars respectively. There are 5 levels to the Special Ops: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo, each increasing in difficulty and time consumption. Some of the Special Ops missions are strictly two player so you will need to either find a player online to help you or have a friend over.

All in all this has been the most anticipated game of the year and promises to keep gamers online for many years to come! Below is some gameplay footage of Modern Warfare 2 so you can see just how good it really looks!

Decision Decisions Decisions!

Wow with all of these new systems coming out just which one is the right one for you? With this post i hope to elaborate and explain every system to the point where you will know exactly what system your looking for. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft have all revolutionized the world of gaming in more ways than one blog post can explain. The new systems that are out all bring their owns strengths to the table as well as their own weaknesses.

Ninendo's system, the Wii, has completely changed the way people play games from sitting down on the couch to being up and active with every thing in the games you can do. With this new motion sensor technology the Wii is the most interactive system out there right now. With the addition of the Wii balance board you are also able to have a whole gym right in your living room! With the Wii being a Nintendo system of course there are your old Nintendo classics such as Mario, Sonic, and Metroid. One of the biggest advantages the Wii has is the Wii Fit which is one of the best selling games on the Wii system due to the fact that not only do you get the Wii balance board but you also get an entire gym on a disc. The Wii Fit game has all kinds of various workouts ranging from someone just beginning to get into shape to those who already work out and want to tone their bodies. There are over 60 kinds of excersies you can do to work various parts of your body. You can practice your balance as well as build leg and thigh muscles with just one of the many programs the Wii Fit has to offer. Now the Wii Fit does focus on lower body workouts seeing as you are standing on your balance board, but with the addition of the EA Active you can experiance a full body workout that will have you sweating in 10 minutes at least. The Wii Fit will work more muscles than you thought you even had. It is a great way to start getting into shape as there are other Wii programs that have more intense workouts for those who are already in good shape and are looking to tone their muscles.

Who doesnt want to kill a Dragon?

One of the newest games to come out recently was the role-playing game (RPG) named Dragon Age: Origins. Set in a fantasy environment overrun by the darkspawn this game has a very rich, vibrant storyline full of unique and humorous characters. With a rating of Mature this game has a lot of blood and violence as well as humorous innuendos. The leveling system and the inventory will be very familiar to those who have played the series of Diablo. This game has one of the most beautiful landscapes I have seen in a very long time.

When you first start the game and begin creating your character you have three hero classes to choose from: Warrior, Mage, or Scout. The warrior is your big melee attacker with a lot of armor to take heavy blows with. The mage is your caster class and can attack as well as heal your party and give enhancements to your parties attack and defense. As you progress through the game you will level up and be able to enhance your stats as well as learn more abilities available to all classes and some abilities which are specific to a certain class.

The battle system this game is a bit different than you would expect. It plays a lot like most Massive Multiplayer Online RPGs (MMORPG) where you press a button to attack a target and your character automatically attacks. To use special abilities you can assign abilities to hotkeys on your controller. You can have up to three extra characters with you (Even a pet!) to have a party of four. You can also take control of these characters at any time in a battle. The computer then takes over your other characters you aren't controlling and it actually does more good than bad which is a lot to ask for at times.

All in all i give this game a 9 out of 10. The game looks amazing, plays amazing, and above all else the character customization is very in depth and your characters can look very similar to you or people you know. The story line and dialogue are very rich and the characters in the game each have their own distint personality. The only setback i had about this game is that you cannot go online with it. But other than that this game is a must play for anyone who is a fan of the RPG fantasy genre.

Video Games, an Introduction

Now i know many people have their personal preferences on their every day hobbies but my favorite activity to do in my down time is play video games. With all of the technology we have in our every day lives we are able to keep in touch with people across the nation with just the press of a button. The Internet has revolutionized the way American citizens lead their everyday lives. One of the biggest technological advancements we have is the gaming systems that have been invented.
Big brands such as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have all come out with the next generation systems of video gaming. Now not only can you play video games that seem real but now these companies have integrated the Internet into the gaming scene. With the online gaming scene now becoming more and more prevalent it does bring up the question, what will the future of gaming be? Already people can escape their own reality and immerse themselves in a game to the point where they are totally oblivious to the world. Who knows what the future of gaming holds. Virtual reality and motion sensing has become a big subject for the system makers. All i can say is that gaming will become more and more realistic as we broaden the horizon in technology.
